EDAK, founded in 1979, has been continuing its activities in the central building of its own with 3000 m2 closed area in Pınarbaşı since 1994.  In process EDAK has modernized itself continuously, followed and used communication technologies carefully and bringed in modern quality to the assurance and supplement service of pharmaceuticals, which is the primary requirement of the members.

EDAK started transition period of Total Quality Management in 1996 and came to a conclusion by obtaining ISO 9001 Quality Management Certificate in 1997. Thus, EDAK is the first pharmaceutical cooperative, gained ISO 9001 Quality Management Certificate.

As a result of efforts to supply our member pharmacists in our field of activity with efficient and quick service, EDAK started branching in 1999 and opened its first branch in Denizli which is called 20th year Denizli Branch and then went on with Muğla, Mersin, Manisa, Afyon, Karşıyaka, Konak, Adana, Afyon and Buca Branch respectively.

In June, 2001 Işık Boyacıgiller Automatic Order Preparation and Packaging System has opened up to service as the result of efforts to increase the facilities of pharmaceuticals allocation and supplement by using high technology.

In order to accelarate cooperation act EDAK cooperate with Güney Ecza Koop through the strategy of “ spreading out nation wide” and toward this cooperation, EDAK set up Mersin and Adana Branches. Thus, Edak have the chance to give service to cities in south and south eastern region.

By renewing itself continuously through the practices of Total Quality Management process, EDAK facilitate e-trade by internet site to member pharmacies. Member pharmacies can place their orders through internet, follow their orders, gain up-to- date information about EDAK and pharmaceutical profession with the developed software and data base system. Today EDAK gives service to about 4460 members in cities such as İzmir, Muğla, Manisa, Aydın, Denizli, Uşak, Afyon, Balıkesir, Antalya, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Kayseri, Hatay, Osmaniye, Kahramanmaraş, Adana and Mersin with 281 distribution cars and circa 900 personnel in the centre and its branches with subcontractors. By the purchasing of a new building on April 2008 which is situated in 11900 m2 area and has closed area of 1800 m2 in each floor and totally 9000 m2, EDAK keeps on growing and developing rapidly with the power of member pharmacies and employees.

Today EDAK has performed many campaigns for protecting the human and environment health with the consciousness of institutional social responsibility and still carry out many of them.

These campaigns are;

  1. Waste Paper Collecting Campaign held out in cooperation with Çağdaş Yaşamı Destekleme Derneği ( Association in support of contemporary life)
  2. The renewal of Behçet Uz Child Hospital Oncology Service
  3. Waste Battery Collecting Campaign still held out in cooperation with Mobile Battery Producers and Importers Association (EDAK won the second prize in the field of Institutions and Firms with this campaign in 2008)
  4. The Campaign of Collecting Products after their usage period, Waste Medical Products(EDAK received thanking letter from Ministry of Environment and Forestry)
  5. Our supports are going on to Turkish Education Association (TEV) in special days.


Also, EDAK provide education grant to the children of member pharmacists' who passed away. The children's scholarship continues if they are successful through their education period.

Our founder Mr. Pharmacist N. Işık BOYACIGİLLER

Nur Işık Boyacıgiller, born in 1948 in Manisa, graduated from İstanbul University Faculty of Pharmacy in 1971. In the same year, he worked as an assistant in Ege University Pharmaceutics Chemistry. In 1973 he opened Dost Pharmacy in İzmir and worked as an active pharmacist for 9 years. He took part in the foundation of Contemporary Pharmacists Group in 1978. The same year he was chosen as the director of Executive Community of Pharmacists Association. He worked as the pioneer of founding of pharmacist cooperatives during those years when he was the director. In 1978, Boyacıgiller founded a cooperative with Neşe Gülersoy who is the general secretary of İzmir Pharmacists Association in Manisa and had a big role in the foundation of EDAK in 1979 in İzmir. He passed away in 1999. Boyacıgiller is a worthy person, who had an important role in the pharmacy history of our country and he was the pioneer in advancement of pharmacy cooperatives which is among the basic politics of contemporary pharmacists’ movement and the supporter of the rights of the pharmacists
